Think Globally, Design Locally

Situated in the ultra-modern Deutsche Bank Building in the heart of the city of Jakarta, Mercedes Benz makes their mark by displaying their famous star on the rooftop of the building.

What do people think of when they think of a Mercedes Benz vehicle? Elegant, sophisticated design, luxurious, prestigious and latest technology engineering. The client’s objective was to resemble this idea to their new office fit out.

Jeffrey van den Berg, was commissioned to design the new office space and his initial brief was to be innovative and represent Mercedes Benz hard-earned reputation in the design concept.

Immediately as you enter the Deutsche Bank building Mercedes Bank makes their mark on the visitor. Displayed in the lobby and visible from outside, is a Mercedes Benz vehicle on an elevated steel-rotating platform. An elegant, streamline desk from Unifor, Italy, is used for client discussions and introductory sales meetings, Unifor also provides the recently launched “Naos” shelves which use innovative design of shelf supports for the President Director’s and Marketing Director rooms. As the lifts open on the 17th floor, a simple black granite reception desk identifies guests and introduces the elegance of Mercedes Benz.

The waiting area, is where the hi-tech design begins, enclosed by full height black and white tempered glass, these frameless partitions are installed with lighting. Each light bulb has a reflector in the front, which creates a halo effect against the glass, the result is subtle but uniquely interesting.

Furniture based on the Wassily design, compliments and finishes the waiting area. The wide leather seat and tubular stainless steel frame provides both comfort and prestige.

The closed offices and conference room use the latest concept of de-mountable partitioning system. The client’s progressive nature and their dedication to creating the best environment, allowed GGS to develop and design this new system. The walls can be reconstructed – according to the growth and needs of the company. All partitions are finished in precious beech veneer, giving a balance in the large quantities of glass and leather used.

The workstation system, had to complement this sophisticated interior. Unifor system furniture was selected for their streamlined panels, whose width is only 25 mm. As a large percentage of this Unifor product is manufactured by GGS locally under license from Italy, which allowed GGS to maintain control and meet tight time schedules. Carpet tiles from Interface were the client’s choice. ‘Ash’ from the Jakarta II range, in a conservative but elegant charcoal color was specified. The high performance anti-static capability of Interface and the soil stain repellant agents of this carpet influenced the client’s decision.

Together the team, is very proud of the Jakarta headquarters, as it represents the principals of Mercedes Benz. Efficiency, intelligent design and sophisticated engineering.
