The Art of Design in Libraries: GGS Interior Innovation for a More Attractive Reading Room

Taman Ismail Marzuki or commonly known as TIM is an art and cultural complex which later became one of the icons of artistic life in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. Named after a prominent Indonesian artist, Ismail Marzuki, this park has become a center for creativity, inspiration and meeting of artists, humanists and art lovers, making it one of the important landmarks for the world of art and culture in Indonesia.

Since it was inaugurated on November 10, 1968 by the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta, Taman Ismail Marzuki has continued to develop their facilities and buildings so that the main purpose of establishing the park, which is to strengthen and develop artistic life in the capital, can be carried out optimally. Some of these facilities and buildings are the Graha Bhakti Budaya Building,  Theater Jakarta, the Galeri Seni Rupa, Institut Kesenian Jakarta or IKJ, and also the Taman Ismail Marzuki Library.

All facilities and buildings that have been built certainly prioritize the comfort of its visitors. It was in this section that GGS Interior took part in responding to Taman Ismail Marzuki's needs in terms of the comfort of its visitors, specifically for the Taman Ismail Marzuki Library. The library as a place to do various things, from conducting research, conducting learning, to entertainment and recreation, is expected to provide comfort to every visitor. Coupled with the large number of visitors who decide not only to visit, but also to spend their time in the library, convenience is one of the most important factors to be fulfilled.

Along with this, the step taken by GGS Interior was to use High Pressure Laminates or HPL which were applied to table surfaces, bookshelves, and to some of the walls of the Taman Ismail Marzuki Library. HPL has several advantages such as being an anti-scratch coating, has anti-fungal properties, and is also heat resistant. On the other hand, HPL also increases artistic value due to the wide variety of colors and motifs that can be obtained from using HPL. For Taman Ismail Marzuki, GGS Interior used HPL with a wood pattern and brown color which gave it an elegant element.

With every step taken by GGS Interior which aimed to increase the comfort and aesthetic value of the Taman Ismail Marzuki Library, it is hoped that more and more visitors will be able to visit the library and feel comfortable spending time there.
